Some Japanese companies that adopt lifetime employment philosophy do not have specific job descriptions. Jobs are defined loosely so that employees will learn to do a variety of tasks over an extended period of time.
A job description is an organized, factual statement of the duties and resposibilities of a specific job.
job specification is statement of the mimimum acceptable human qualities necessary to perform a job properly.
Job analysis is a useful procedure in identifying the criteria or performance dimensions of a job.
A Position Analysis Questionnaire consists of statements used to describe the human attributes needed to perform a job. The statements are organized into six major categories to perform a job.
The compartmentalized office is rare in Japan, with all employees from rank-and file level all the way up to members of the board of directors (who are usually internal directors rather than outside appointed directors as in other countries), working together in a open office space environment.
